After two weeks of wanting to go there, we finally went to the 9/11 memorial museum today. I knew this had been an event that affected the whole world, but only now I realised how big the impact has really been. In the museum they had a lot of remains of what was once the world trace centre (north and south tower).
The museum was really well set up and showed the attack and its impact in various ways. What got to me the most was the video in which you could actualy see a plane crash into the south tower whilst the north tower was allready burning, the video's where you could see the buidlings collaps and the stories of all the rescue workers that lost their lives trying to save others (including a partly crushed fire truck). It was really strange to see the Twin Towers, the symbol of the United States' economic power, collapse and dissapear.
Afterwards we took the subway to the American Museum of National History. In this gigantic museum we had to select some exhibitions, because it would be impossible to see everything before they closed. First we went to see the African Mammals, and after that we saw the Asian Mammals. I really liked those exhibitions, because they also gave you a good idea of what the natural habitats of these animals looks like, how they spend their day and who their natural enemies are. Afterwards we went to the most famous exhibition of the museum, to the enormous dinossaur skeletons. It was fantastic to see how gigantic these prehistoric animals really where. Tomorrow will be my last day here; my flight leaves late in the evening.
