Today we went on a boat tour that took us to both Liberty Island and Ellis Island, two Islands at the coast of Manhattan.
The first stop was at Liberty Island, home of the Statue of Liberty. From the ship we had a great view on the Statue, but it still looked pretty small. But once we got on the Island I realised how tall it really is. The statue really looks Majestic when you stand at the foot of it.
We went to get some lunch in a small park next to the statue and after that we went back to the boat.
The boat took us to Ellis Island, where most of the immigrants used to enter the United States before they closed the operation on the Island in 1954. In the main building, with the big hall where the immigrants used to wait before they where questioned, there was a museum about the immigration to the United States. A lot of items had been "temporarily removed", so the exhibition consisted mainly of reading information without any examples of how it was.
The smaller rooms where much more interesting, because they where more specific. They took a closer look at things like the medical care on Ellis Island and how the Island looked after it was abonded (and before it was restored).
